Cristina Vasilescu

Cristina Vasilescu (b. 1992, Bucharest) is an independent curator based in Bucharest and starting with 2018 Artistic Director at SUPRAINFINIT Gallery. She co-ran clearview – a contemporary art project, a residency program, a series of events and a collective dedicated to the vision of the invited practitioners with its base in North London. She has recently co-founded Infinite Conversation Association, devising a long-term curatorial platform <Quote – Unquote> that addresses the notion of public speech by exploring its layers in contemporary society, the power of discourse to claim authority, to manipulate, the effects and elements it entails, and the performative aspects of speech-language-voice. In the summer of 2019 she participated in a two-week curatorial workshop, part of Salzburg Academy, led by curator Marina Fokidis around notions of site-sensitivity, polyphony and entanglements within curatorial practices. Recent project addressing contemporary notions of privacy and technologies with artists Nora Silva, Ami Clarke and Nilz Källgren was part of ODD P R  I V A T E L Y 2018 in Bucharest. Other projects include: What’s love got to do with it? at the ICA, London, 2018; Public Marketplace, a collective project part of Art Night, London, 2018; Is this the end?, a collective project part of the ICA, London, 2017; Turn The Tide, a collaborative project part of RCA Dyson Gallery London, 2017; and remapping bodies, with artist Vlad Brăteanu at tranzit.ro/Bucharest, 2016. She worked as a Programme and casual Curatorial Assistant at the ICA, London from 2014 and 2018. She has contributed to Temporary Art Review, Revista ARTA and Baltic Triennial 13 Catalogue. Cristina holds an MA in Curating Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art, London (2017) and a BA in Social and Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths College, University of London (2014). Cristina is currently a member of Art Curator Grid.
