Mireia Estrada-Gelabert

Mireia Estrada, 20 years experience in culture, civic citizenship and interculturalism. She first studied Catalan philology in Barcelona (UAB 1998) before moving to France and later to Quebec and Montreal where she obtained a master (M.A.) in French African literature (UdeM, 2002) then, once in Spain, a master in Emigration and Interculturalism (University Comillas, 2003).

Her career began in 2003 as coordinator of the prestigious International Catalunya Award given by the Catalan government. She has collaborated in various projects with important institutions such as the Office of Promotion of Peace and Human Rights, Office of Equity of Opportunities in Work (both from Catalan government), Centre for European Initiatives and Research in the Mediterranean (CIREM), and the European Institute of Mediterranean (IEMed) for which she worked in the International Meeting “Human Movements and Immigration Congress” (MHI, 2004).

In 2008-2009 she directed the department of interculturality for Ibn Battuta Association where she held various cultural and social workshops in the districts of Barcelona with most ethnic diversity. From 2005 and during 12 years she created different pedagogical resources for the high schools of the city of Girona related to human mobility, migration and interculturality.

In 2011 Mireia created along with Canadian Moroccan playwright and museologist Ahmed Ghazali the association Jiwar Creation & Society where she intends as Director to apply all her knowledge and experience accompanying artists in their creative journey and connecting them with the city and its social challenges. From Jiwar she created specific projects always relating community and social city challenges with art as Making neibhbourhood. From 2019 she is the coordinator of the Residencies program committee of Lliure Theater, an important public theater in Barcelona.
