Jean-Lorin Sterian

I'm a researcher, writer, artist and performer currently based in Bucharest/Romania. In 2008, I opened lorgean theatre, the first living-room theater in Romania. I published several fiction books and one anthropological work related to his experiences of turning his house into a public space for performances. Currently, I'm researching signs of what I have stated to be »homemade culture«, meaning theater, visual and performance art based only in private spaces from all over the world.

I have worked as a performer for two projects at Venice Biennale, The Sinthome Score (2015, Dora Garcia) and An Immaterial Retrospective of the Venice Biennale (2013). I also performed my own art independent project, The parasite socks project at the 56th Venice Biennale. He created performance shows like We Need To Talk About lorgean (2014), Strip-tease (2013, with Alice Pons) and Zugzwang (2012).

In 2019 I will release Starshitting, a video-performance presented as feature movie. I received fellowships in contemporary dance at The Gathering, Montemor-o-Novo/Portugal (2013) DanceWeb, Vienna/Austria (2012), Fleetstreet (Hamburg, 2013) theater/performance (SubScena, Zagreb 2018), art Pogon (Zagreb (2016), social science (Solitude Schloss Akademie (2016, 2017) as well as a fellowship in literature at Villa Marguerite Yourcenar, Saint-Jans-Cappel/France (2012)
